Fisheries for our future

Not only are South Pacific marine environments thought to be among the most unique in the world, but South Pacific communities also rely on these environments for their livelihoods. However these marine habitats are also under the threat from pollution, climate and overfishing. This manual aims to support teachers to plan lessons around marine conservation. The educational philosophy is to foster a sense of responsibility among students, such that they are able to participate in making decisions that impact their environment.

The Marshall Islands : living atolls amidst the living sea / The National Biodiversity Report of the Republic of the Marshall Islands

The purpose of this Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (BSAP) is to Assist the Marshall Islands to Plan for the Conservation of its biodiversity and for in the sustainable use of its biological resources. This is the first time that such a strategy and action plan has been formulated for the country. It provides an opportunity for the government of the Republic of the Marshall Islands to integrate principles of sustainable resource management and biodiversity conservation into the national development planning processes.

The critically endangered Manumea or Tooth-billed pigeon is found only in Samoa and is highly significant in its cultural heritage. The pigeon only lives within and on the edges of intact mature native forest. Its number appear to have dropped dramaitically during the last 10-15 years, mostly through loss of habitat, hunding and possibly due to the impact of introduces invasive predators.
